50 hydrogen-powered vessels planned for India by 2035

French marine fuel cell manufacturer Genevos and Indian hydrogen technology company SSB Green Enviro plan to deploy 50 hydrogen-powered vessels in India over the next decade.

The vessels are expected to cover a range of segments, from harbour and coastal workboats such as pilot vessels and tugboats to passenger ferries and potentially light cargo vessels designed for Indian waters.

Pilot deployments are targeted to begin next year, with multiple vessel deliveries planned by 2027.

SSB Green Enviro will contribute its manufacturing and infrastructure capabilities alongside Genevos’ marine hydrogen fuel cell technology to “localize and scale up clean maritime innovations tailored for Indian conditions,” said Saptarshi Simlai, director at SSBI Group.
