ABS grants approval to HD Hyundai Mipo for its design of an LCO2 carrier

Classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has granted an approval in principle (AiP) to South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) for the design of a liquified carbon dioxide (LCO2) carrier.

HMD’s design involves a cargo containment system installed onboard a 35,000 cbm LCO2 carrier.

ABS has completed the design reviews based on class and statutory requirements for liquified gas carriers, the classification society said.

The approval was granted on the sidelines of the Gastech Exhibition and Conference 2024 in Houston, the US this week.
