ABS, HD KSOE collaborate to develop new ship technologies

Classification society ABS has partnered with South Korean shipbuilder HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) to develop new technologies for ships.

The partnership will concentrate on developing three key technologies: First, an LNG cargo handling system with a complete re-liquefaction process to manage boil-off gas (BOG) for LNG carriers.

Second, an ammonia fuel supply system with pressure control designed for large commercial vessels. Third, an integrated system that combines re-liquefaction with cold ammonia fuel supply to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

The agreement was signed at the Gastech Exhibition and Conference 2024 in Houston, the US this week.
