Under the agreement, the vessel will be retrofitted with a 22-meter-high suction sail in Spain’s Astander Shipyard near the Port of Santander. The retrofit is scheduled for mid-2025.
This is Amasus’ second order with bound4blue. In August, Amasus installed bound4blue’s WAPS on its general cargo vessel, Eems Traveller.
WAPS technology is based on active boundary layer control using suction. When switched on, the system will suck in air to re-adhere the airflow towards the sail to help in propulsion.
