Auramarine’s methanol fuel system includes “methanol supply unit (LFSS), bunker and transfer systems, control and monitoring system and the important safety system.”
Auramarine expects to deliver the systems between the second half of 2024 and first half of 2025.
The 15,000 dwt tankers are being built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, with delivery of the first one expected in March 2025.
“Methanol is one of the most viable future fuels currently on the market. We recognise that as well as price and availability, a key element of driving widespread uptake of these vital future fuels that will deliver industry decarbonisation, is ensuring that the right bunkering and onboard operational infrastructure is in place to inspire ship owner and operator confidence,” Auramarine’s chief executive John Bergman says.
Shipowners are increasingly turning to methanol as a low-emission alternative to conventional marine fuels. Classification society’s DNV latest tally shows that there are 204 confirmed methanol-fuelled vessels in operation and on order, up from 156 in June.
