July 22, 2026

Classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) has awarded design assessment certificates to several variants of UK-based wind propulsion technology company Anemoi Marine's rotor sail wind-assisted propulsion system.

A design assessment certificate confirms that a vessel design has been independently reviewed and complies with applicable technical and regulatory standards.

The latest approval covers Anemoi's fixed and rail-deployed (sliding) 24.5-metre rotor sails. The company is also pursuing additional approvals for its fixed and folding 35-metre rotor sails.

With this latest certification, Anemoi's full rotor sail systems are now covered by approvals from multiple classification societies, including BV, Lloyd's Register, DNV, ABS and ClassNK. The broader certification is expected to simplify the adoption of rotor sail technology for both newbuild vessels and retrofit projects by reducing regulatory hurdles.
