LNG-ready vessels have a ship design that has been prepared or “ready” for using LNG as a fuel in the future, while LNG-fuelled ones can consume LNG as fuel now.
The 50,000-dwt chemical/product MR tanker, M/T Avax, is the third of six LNG-ready ships to be delivered to Capital Ship Management. It is also wind-assist and shore power-ready.
The vessel has been built by Hyundai Vietnam Shipyard.
Data from classification society DNV shows that 368 LNG-powered vessels are currently in operation and that another 174 LNG-powered vessels are on order for delivery this year. The LNG-powered fleet is projected to grow by 188 from last year to this year.
