January 7, 2025

Oil prices got a small boost from a positive news from China, where state-owned refiners are set to increase crude throughput in January amid expectations of strong demand for oil products, market intelligence provider JLC reported.

Chinese state-owned refiners plan to process a total of 40.50 million mt of crude in January, with the daily throughput at around 1.31 million mt (9.54 million b/d), up 3.12% from December 2024.

The country's demand for oil products is expected to rise around the Chinese New Year public holiday, JLC reported.

PetroChina's Guangxi Petrochemical, with a capacity of 200,000 b/d, will be the only state-owned refinery unit under maintenance until late January, JLC said.
