The daily crude oil imports in August stood at 11.66 million b/d, an increase of 4.9% month-on-month, JLC reported.

The country’s crude imports rose last month, supported by expectations of stronger demand in the upcoming months.

“Chinese companies placed more orders for imported crude to arrive in August, expecting demand to rise during September-October, a traditional peak season for fuel consumption in China,” JLC said.

On a year-on-year comparison, China’s crude imports grew by a modest 0.8% last month.

“Imports have been stronger as the maintenance season is finally over and refiners took even more cargoes in August,” remarked two analysts from ING Bank.

China has imported a total of about 376.05 million mt of crude in the first eight months of this year, about 2.5% higher than the corresponding period in 2024, according to JLC.
