The daily crude oil imports in June stood at 12.14 million b/d, an increase of 10.6% month-on-month, JLC reported.
“Chinese refiners placed more orders for imported crude to arrive in June, as international crude oil prices were at a relatively low level at certain points of April-May,” JLC said.
The uptick in Chinese crude imports directly reflects improvement in demand growth in the world’s second-largest crude oil-consuming nation, amid less refinery maintenance work and summer travel season, the agency noted.
On a year-on-year comparison, China’s crude imports grew by 7.4% last month.
The country has imported a total of about 279.39 million mt of crude in the first six months of this year, about 1.4% higher than the corresponding period in 2024, according to JLC.
