The 16,000 cbm bunkering vessel, Hai Gang Zhi Yuan, underwent modifications during the retrofit, which included the integration of an advanced methanol fuel system. The retrofit process, initiated on 22 September 2023, was carried out at Zhoushan Putuo Changhong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard, according to Methanol Institute.
The bunkering vessel was designed by Nantong Nordre.
The Hai Gang Zhi Yuan, owned by Shanghai SIPG Energy Services, can carry out ship-to-ship methanol bunkering during the loading and unloading of containers. It can also transport methanol cargo.
