Chinese refiners produced about 993,000 mt of VLSFO in September, with daily output at 33,100 mt, noting a plunge of 11% from the previous month, JLC reported.

On a year-on-year basis, the VLSFO output in September fell by 15%.

Last month, Chinese refiners PetroChina and CNOOC continued to decrease their VLSFO output, JLC reported. In contrast, Sinopec’s VLSFO production “increased slightly" during the same period, the report added.

Earlier this year, China issued the third and final batch of VLSFO export quotas, allowing 1 million mt of exports, “bringing this year’s total quotas to 13 million mt, down from 13.17 million for 2023,” JLC reported.
