Chinese shipping firms sign agreement to decarbonize dry bulk shipping

Thirteen Chinese shipping companies have signed a “Green Shipping Declaration” at an event hosted by China Merchants Shipping to improve sustainability and decarbonization of the dry bulk shipping industry.

China Merchants Shipping Vice President Feng Boming said that the collaboration initiative is based on China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and green development strategy.

The initiative will leverage benefits from Hong Kong’s location to focus on three key areas, including sharing of green technologies, optimizing the operational ecosystem, and jointly creating green industry standards, Boming said.

The signatories include major dry bulk transportation companies Hong Kong Ming Wah Shipping, COSCO (Hong Kong) Shipping, Shandong Shipping, Fujian Guohang Ocean Shipping, Beigang Shipping, Huaguang Bulk Shipping, Jinhui Shipping, Bohai Ocean Shipping, Zheijian Shipping Group, Jiangsu Ocean Shipping, Nanjing Ocean Shipping, Zhejiang Xiehai Group and Ningbo Chuntai Shipping.
