CMA CGM orders six LNG capable vessels from Indian shipbuilder

Shipping major CMA CGM has signed a letter of intent to buy six LNG dual-fuel container vessels from India’s Cochin Shipyard.

According to the company, the vessels are to be delivered between 2029-2031 and will have a capacity of 1,700 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).
South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy industries will provide “technical co-operation” to Cochin Shipyard on the project, the carrier said.
This is the first time a major international carrier has ordered LNG capable vessels from an Indian shipbuilder, and all six vessels will be registered under the Indian flag, CMA CGM said.
