CMA CGM plans to order two methanol-ready vessels

French container shipping company CMA CGM intends to order two LNG-fuelled vessels that will be methanol ready as well.

The company will add these vessels to the fleet of its recently acquired La Méridionale – a shipping company operating four RoPax (roll-on/roll-off passenger) vessels between the French ports of Marseille, Porto Vecchio and Ajaccio, along with connections between Marseille and Morocco.

The vessels “will also be able to carry out operations with zero CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions during port calls,” and replace the older vessels in service between Corsica and Marseille, CMA CGM says.

This move is in sync with CMA CGM’s plans to develop one of the first “green corridors” in the Mediterranean region.
