November 18, 2025

Denmark should strengthen ties with Brazil and other Mercosur countries at COP30 to help drive investment in green bunker fuels, Nina Porst, executive director at Danish Shipping, said.

Mercosur, which is the South American trade bloc, includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay as full members and Chile, Colombia, Guyana and Panama among its associate members.

“After last month’s disappointment in London, it is more important than ever to focus on building communities and alliances with like-minded, climate-ambitious partners around the world,” Porst said.

Such global alliances will underpin the IMO’s work over the coming year, “when we must continue to fight tooth and nail for the best possible agreement,” she added.
