Costa Cruises ships to run on batteries during port operations

Italian cruise company Costa Cruises seeks to run its cruise ships entirely on electricity between the time they enter and leave port, including during quayside stops.

Costa Cruises has signed a memorandum of understanding with Italian electric firm Enel to explore how it electrify its cruise ships while in port.

Costa intends to install battery power supply systems onboard the cruise ships, along with shore-side power and recharging systems.

Enel will test one of these systems by retrofitting it onboard a Costa cruise ship.
