DHL books emissions cuts via CMA CGM biofuel bunkering
DHL will use CMA CGM’s biofuel bunkering to claim around 25,000 mtCO2e of well-to-wake emissions reductions under a book-and-claim arrangement.

Under the deal, CMA CGM will physically bunker around 8,990 mt of UCOME-based biofuel across its fleet.
The carrier has not specified whether the biofuel will be used as a blend with conventional fuel or as pure biofuel (B100), but expects its use to deliver approximately 25,000 mtCO2e of well-to-wake emissions reductions.
CMA CGM will allocate the associated greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions to DHL using a mass-balance approach. DHL will then pass on the equivalent GHG savings to its customers through a book-and-claim mechanism.
The structure allows DHL’s customers to claim emissions reductions even if their cargo is transported on conventionally-fuelled vessels, provided they pay a premium for the service.
DHL has previously entered into a similar arrangement with shipping firm Hapag-Lloyd and has also signed a book-and-claim agreement with consumer goods manufacturer Henkel.
