An air compressor is used for multiple applications on a ship and its main purpose is to help start the main and secondary engines. However, its power consumption in proportion to a ship’s total energy usage is not clearly known.
According to TMC, its equipment offers precise control over compressor speeds that helps reduce power consumption. The company makes these systems only for the maritime industry.
After manufacturing, TMC will test the equipment in Europe before shipping it to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea.
South Korean shipbuilder DSME is building four 174,000 cbm LNG carriers for Norway-based shipping firm BW Gas. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2025.
