ABB will install the plug-and-play shore power system at the Vlissingen port for DEME’s fleet by the end of this year, it said.
Shore power is gradually becoming more widely available in ports. Although it may not drastically impact global shipping emissions, it allows ships to connect to electrical power while in port, thereby reducing shipping emissions around the port area.
This project is part of an initiative by the Dutch government that supports the construction and use of shore power facilities in Netherlands’ seaports.
