Exmar launches ammonia dual-fuel vessel

Antwerp-based gas transport firm Exmar has launched the first in a series of four ammonia dual-fuel gas carriers being built by South Korea’s HD Hyundai Mipo.

The 46,000 cbm LPG/ammonia carrier is the first vessel to feature Winterthur Gas & Diesel’s (WinGD) ammonia dual-fuel engine, enabling it to operate on both ammonia and conventional marine fuels, according to the Swiss marine engine manufacturer.

Construction of the second vessel, H8390, began in May, while work on the third vessel, H8391, started this month.

However, the company has not provided further details regarding the delivery timelines or deployment locations for these vessels.
