The container ship, Colorado Express, was bunkered with 1,320 mt of a B25-ULSFO blend in Antwerp. The blend was made up of 25% waste-based fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) derived from used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME) and 75% ultra-low sulphur fuel oil.
“The blend offered an estimated 20.1% well-to-wake greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction compared with conventional marine fuel formulations on an energy basis,” ExxonMobil claims.
Apart from B25-ULSFO, ExxonMobil also offers B30-VLSFO, B7-MGO and B10-HSFO blends, Armelle Breneol, marine fuels technical advisor at ExxonMobil said.
