First bio-methanol STS bunkering completed in Guangzhou

Chinese producer CIMC Enric supplied a large bio-methanol stem to a Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) Group bulk carrier at the Lantau Anchorage in the Port of Guangzhou.

Sinobunker's bunker vessel Daqing 268 delivered around 1,000 mt of pure bio-methanol via ship-to-ship (STS) bunkering to the methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier Green Future, operated by NYK subsidiary NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers.

The bio-methanol was produced at CIMC Enric's Zhanjiang facility, which has a production capacity of 50,000 mt/year.

This was the first STS methanol bunkering operation at Guangzhou Port, demonstrating the port's green methanol supply capabilities, said Lu Shengwei Raymond, senior business development manager at CIMC Green Energy.

“The successful execution of this green methanol bunkering at Guangzhou Port, building on prior operations in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, signifies that Guangdong Province's locally produced bio-methanol has achieved a closed-loop network across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA),” Raymond said.
