Fratelli to expand methanol-capable bunker fleet by 2027

Italian shipping firm Fratelli Cosulich is set to take delivery of two remaining methanol-capable bunker tankers through May 2027.

The group had taken delivery of three of five methanol-capable dual-fuel IMO II chemical bunker tankers, Maya Cosulich, Anna Cosulich and Lucia Cosulich, by July 2026.

The two remaining sister vessels are scheduled for delivery over the next nine months, Fratelli said in its 2025 annual report. Carlotta Cosulich is due in October, followed by Natalia Cosulich in May 2027.

The group has also invested in two LNG bunker tankers, to position its fleet for growing demand for low-emission marine fuels.

“These investments reflect the Group’s intention to remain aligned with evolving regulatory frameworks and customer expectations, including those related to EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime and IMO decarbonisation objectives,” it said.

Fratelli Cosulich has partnered with Japanese shipping firm IINO Lines to assess potential LNG, methanol and ammonia bunkering opportunities, although the companies have not disclosed further details of the planned cooperation.
