March 19, 2026

Under the renewed partnership, vessels operated by both companies and fuelled with bio-LNG, will continue generating compliance surplus for Gasum’s pooling service.

Gasum will continue its FuelEU Maritime pooling collaboration with Viking Line and Wallenius Sol in 2026, extending an agreement that supports compliance with the EU’s carbon-intensity regulation for shipping.

The surplus units can be allocated to other vessels within the pool that require additional compliance to meet FuelEU Maritime targets.

Gasum acts as the pool manager, handling the distribution of compliance benefits among participating vessels and ensuring regulatory requirements are met across the pool.

The collaboration builds on existing cooperation between the three companies, with Viking Line and Wallenius Sol continuing to play as providers of compliance surplus through their use of low-emission bio-LNG.

FuelEU Maritime, which took effect in 2025, sets limits on the greenhouse gas intensity of energy used by ships calling at EU ports and allows pooling as a flexibility mechanism for compliance.
