GeelongPort and Fortescue explore green hydrogen production in Australia

The port authority has collaborated with green energy firm Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) to jointly study the possibility of setting up a green hydrogen production facility in Geelong, Australia.

The duo will also analyse ammonia production from the facility for export and domestic use.

They expect to complete the feasibility study by the end of this year, which would follow an investment decision in 2024.

The project envisages setting up infrastructure for hydrogen trade, including pipeline connections from the facility to land and building piers for ship operations.

“This collaboration is yet another milestone in GeelongPort’s journey to become Australia’s most sustainable bulk port and to help accelerate Victoria’s transition to clean energy,” the port authority says.

The port is located on the shores of Corio Bay in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
