The orders have been placed by South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries on behalf of an unnamed Asian shipowner.

The tanks will have a capacity of 174,000-cbm each.

They will be fitted with GTT’s membrane containment system, which the company says is "a cryogenic liner used to contain liquefied gas at low temperatures during shipping, onshore and offshore storage, at atmospheric pressure.”

The two vessels are scheduled to be delivered in the first and second quarters of 2027.

LNG carriers have been gaining more traction as a way to transport and store natural gas. These carriers play a critical part in transporting fuel to ports to meet demand from various sectors including bunkering.

Earlier this month, GTT received an order from shipbuilding firm Samsung Heavy Industries to design tanks for five new LNGCs.
