A research icebreaker is a specialised ship designed to navigate through ice-covered waters while supporting scientific research in polar regions.
The vessel will be powered by a dual-fuel engine that can run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels. It will be able to withstand temperatures as low as -45°C.
It will be used for polar missions and research conducted by the Polar Research Institute, part of the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology.
