HD Hyundai completes type approval test for new LNG dual-fuel engine

South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Engine & Machinery division has successfully completed the Type Approval Test (TAT) for its new LNG dual-fuel engine.

A Type Approval Test verifies whether an equipment design meets the required regulatory and technical standards before it is approved for use.

The company expects the new engine to deliver improved fuel efficiency and a lower methane slip compared with its previous engine models, due to the incorporation advanced technologies.

The test was conducted from 21-23 September at the Engine Techno Center in South Korea, with representatives from seven major classification societies taking part.

The participating societies included South Korea’s KR, the US’ ABS, France’s BV, Norway’s DNV, Japan’s NK, the UK’s LR and Italy’s RINA.
