HD KSOE EcoPhin, Amogy to enhance ammonia-powered technologies
South Korean shipbuilder HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) and US ammonia tech company Amogy have partnered to advance ammonia-powered technologies in the maritime sector.

Their collaboration aims to integrate HD KSOE EcoPhin's propulsion systems with Amogy’s ammonia-to-electric power system to electrify vessels.
Amogy’s ammonia-to-electric power technology breaks down, or "cracks," liquid ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen. The hydrogen is then directed into a fuel cell, producing power without carbon emissions.
This technology is especially effective in lowering emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as maritime shipping and stationary power generation, Amogy says.
In June, a feeder vessel concept by Hyundai Mipo and HD KSOE, featuring Amogy’s technology and HD KSOE's propulsion system, received an approval from Lloyd’s Register (LR).
