HMM orders a dozen LNG dual-fuel container vessels

South Korean shipping company HMM (formerly Hyundai Merchant Marine) has placed an order for 12 LNG dual-fuel container ships with domestic shipbuilders.

The 13,000 TEU vessels will be capable of operating on both LNG and conventional marine fuels.

The newbuilds will be constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean. HMM has not yet disclosed further details about the order, including delivery timelines or deployment plans.

In addition to these container ships, HMM has also ordered two very large crude carriers (VLCCs), though details about their manufacturer and specifications have not been revealed.
