Holland Shipyards launches two shortsea vessels with WAPS

Dutch shipbuilder Holland Shipyards has launched two shortsea cargo vessels featuring wind-assisted propulsion systems.

A shortsea trade vessel is used for transporting goods over shorter distances along coastlines and inland waterways.

Designed by engineering firm Conoship International, the 3,800-dwt vessels Waalvliet and Rijnvliet are equipped with rigid sails from Dutch wind power company Econowind.

Built for Hartel Shipping & Chartering, they will operate on shortsea routes across Europe.
