The facility will include renewable energy generation, an ammonia synthesis plant and storage and export infrastructure. Production capacity could be expanded to 1 million mt/year in the future, Hynfra said.
The company has not yet disclosed a timeline for the project.
It has also not confirmed whether it will supply its green ammonia for bunkering, but described the fuel as "one of the pillars" of the green fuel transition in shipping and other sectors.
"We are seeing growing interest from East Asian governments in Pacific Basin projects, and we are deliberately targeting this niche," said Tomoho Umeda, chief executive of Hynfra.
"Production on Mindoro shortens supply routes and reduces the value chain's exposure to politically sensitive corridors, including the Strait of Malacca, through which a substantial share of energy imports to China, Japan and South Korea passes," the company added.
It is also exploring the possibility of using Taiwan as its regional export hub for green ammonia shipments to South Korea and Japan.
Hynfra also plans to develop two more green ammonia projects in the Pacific Basin, in Malaysia and Alaska. Elsewhere, it is advancing green ammonia projects in Jordan, Mauritania and Oman.
