IINO Lines takes delivery of LPG dual-fuel gas carrier

Japanese tanker operator IINO Kaiun Kaisha (IINO Lines) has taken delivery of an LPG dual-fuel very large gas carrier (VLGC) from South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean’s Okpo Shipyard.

The 93,000-cbm-capacity newbuild, Lumi Aurora, can operate on both LPG and conventional marine fuels, becoming the third LPG dual-fuel vessel in IINO Lines’ fleet. The VLGC is capable of carrying both ammonia and LPG, adding flexibility to its cargo operations.

The vessel is equipped with icebreaking capabilities, allowing it to navigate ice-covered waters in the Baltic Sea during winter.

The global fleet of LPG-capable vessels currently numbers 175, with another 164 ships expected to enter service by 2030. Of the existing fleet, 163 are dedicated LPG carriers, while 12 can transport both LPG and ammonia, according to classification society DNV.

Meanwhile, Greek shipowner Alpha Gas took delivery of its second LPG dual-fuel VLGC this month.
