Japanese battery-powered bunker tanker completes first bunkering
The world's second battery-powered bunker tanker which was delivered to Japanese shipping company Asahi Tanker completed its first bunker operations in Tokyo last week.

The 499 gross tonne tanker, Akari, is powered by 3,480kWh lithium-ion batteries and have 1,280 cbm of cargo carrying capacity, according to the order details from 2020. It was built by the Imura Shipyard and delivered to Asahi on 28 March, the company said in a statement.
Akari completed its first bunkering operation by supplying an iron ore carrier operated by Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines in Tokyo Bay on 14 April.
The tanker will deliver bunker stems in the Keihin region in Tokyo along with the first battery-powered tanker Asahi, which was delivered last year.
