The car carrier Viking Ocean is owned by Norwegian shipping company Gram Car Carriers and was bunkered at Yokohama Daikoku C-4 Terminal in Japan.
This was the first time that a K Line-operated vessel was bunkered with a biofuel blend in Japan, the company said.
The B24 blend consisted of 24% fatty acid methyl ester (FAME)-based biofuel and 76% VLSFO. The biofuel was produced from renewable organic resources like biomass that do not compete with food or feed crops, it said.
However, the company has not revealed details about the biofuel supplier or the bunker delivery method.
