Latest delivery takes Maersk’s methanol-capable fleet to 19
Global shipping company A.P. Moller-Maersk has concluded another methanol-capable newbuilding series with the delivery of its 19th dual-fuel container vessel.

Barcelona Mærsk is the sixth and final vessel in Maersk’s 17,480-TEU methanol-capable newbuilding series.
With the delivery of this vessel, Maersk has met its self-imposed target of launching 19 methanol-capable vessels by 2026.
Maersk’s methanol fleet now comprises 12 vessels with a capacity of 16,000 TEU, six vessels with a capacity of 17,480 TEU and one 15,690-TEU container ship that has been retrofitted to operate on methanol.
It also operates a 2,100-TEU methanol-capable feeder vessel, Laura Maersk, which is currently being used for ethanol trials.
The company has ordered another six 9,000-TEU methanol-capable vessels, which are scheduled for delivery by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding by 2027.
These deliveries will bring Maersk’s total methanol-capable vessel count to 26.
