Feadship’s multi-fuel system enables the vessels to consume alternative fuels, such as methanol, while maintaining compatibility with conventional fuels to allow for global operation and range.
“With the capability to store methanol as a fuel, further expansion of methanol-based fuel cells is unlocked,” Feadship says.
The system was given a greenlight by LR after “a thorough assessment of the system's design, components, and operational requirements to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.”
“This system has the potential to revolutionise the yacht industry by offering a sustainable and clean alternative to traditional fuels,” LR’s global yacht segment director Engel-Jan de Boer says.
The approval was awarded to Feadship at the Monaco Yacht Show held last week.
