A.P. Moller-Maersk-owned global towage provider Svitzer believes methanol is a "viable" alternative to meet its self-imposed decarbonisation targets. Svitzer aims to halve carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from its fleet of 440 towage vessels by 2030 and become carbon-neutral by 2040.

“While we seek to mature and utilise new technologies, fuel types and operational approaches for new vessels, we also have to find solutions that help reduce the emissions from our existing fleet,” says Svitzer’s head of decarbonisation Gareth Prowse.
