The vessel can operate on both LPG and conventional marine fuels and is designed to carry ammonia in addition to LPG. It was built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and ordered by MOL’s group company, MOL Energia.

The ship will be chartered by CSSA Chartering and Shipping Services, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, and was delivered off Mokpo Port.

MOL has not disclosed where the vessel will be deployed.

The global LPG-capable fleet currently comprises 145 vessels, with 90 more scheduled for delivery by 2028. Of the existing fleet, 142 are LPG carriers, while three are capable of carrying both LPG and ammonia, according to DNV.

In January, gas transportation company Southwest Maritime ordered two LPG dual-fuel very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) from Jiangnan Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). During the same month, Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) launched an LPG dual-fuel large-scale LPG carrier, Lucent Pathfinder.
