Mureloil orders new bunker tanker for Portuguese operations

Spain’s Mureloil has contracted Astilleros de Murueta Shipyards to build a new chemical tanker for bunkering operations in Portuguese waters.

Besides conventional fuel propulsion, the vessel will be equipped with batteries that will allow it to operate in electric mode for several hours. It will also be capable of connecting to an onshore power supply, the company said.

It has been designed to handle maritime supply and transportation of liquid fuels, particularly biofuels and methanol, Mureloil noted.

The ship will be classed by Bureau Veritas, flagged in Spain, and is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2027.

In June, Mureloil also launched the chemical tanker Bahia Candela, which will be chartered to Repsol for bunkering operations.
