Neoline Armateur, a CMA CGM-backed French shipping company, has started construction of its first sail-powered cargo vessel at RMK Marine in Turkey.
Neoline has conceptualised a 320-car-equivalent (CEU) ship with primary sail propulsion and an auxiliary engine with a "desulphurised" marine gasoil (MGO) generator.
Compared to a traditional cargo ship on an equivalent route, Neoline Armateur claims its design can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90% through wind power.
