The biofuel, supplied by GoodFuels, has been delivered to two vessels for their voyages to Asia and Africa, respectively.
According to Norden, this marks the company's first biofuel bunker operation on chartered vessels. It has chartered these vessels from Norwegian shipping company Spar Shipping.
"The advantage of biofuel, over other low carbon fuels, is that it can be used onboard vessels without any type of modification to the current engine design, thereby minimising risk for shipowners who are ready to take the step into using biofuel," says Norden.
Biofuels are “key transition fuels” to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, says Norden’s head of decarbonisation & climate solutions, Henrik Røjel.
Meanwhile, Norden has not disclosed the ratio of biofuel to oil-based fuel in the recently delivered stems - which has big implications for its CO2 emission reduction potential.
