Both vessels will be built at Cochin Shipyard in India. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery this year. It will be upgraded after delivery to run on hydrogen by 2027.

The delivery date for the second vessel has not yet been disclosed.

The two vessels will be equipped with hydrogen fuel cells to run on liquid hydrogen, Samskip said. Norwegian Hydrogen will supply the liquid green hydrogen from its facility in Rjukan, Norway.

Norwegian Hydrogen is building a 3,500 mt/year green hydrogen production facility in Rjukan. The plant will include liquefaction, storage and bunkering infrastructure, with production expected to begin in 2028.

“Together with Samskip we break the “chicken-and-egg” dilemma of the hydrogen economy by aligning real demand with bankable, scalable production,” Norwegian Hydrogen said.
