The corridor will operate around 12-15 voyages per year with Odfjell’s chemical tankers on the 5000 nautical-mile route, each voyage lasting around 40 days.
According to Odfjell, this is an industry led green corridor and will be developed with self-funding, without any subsidies.
The shipping company said it is working with the ports of Antwerp-Bruges, Rotterdam and Rio Grande to develop the green corridor, by improving efficiency and optimizing port-stay processes. It is also collaborating with customers to maximize vessel capacity utilization.
Odfjell added that it will work with fuel providers to increase the availability of green fuels.
The company said it has established an offtake of B24 biofuel blend in Brazil’s Rio Grande to secure long-term fuel availability. The B24 blend is made up of 24% waste-based renewable biodiesel and 76% conventional fuel.
This project builds on the 2024 MoU signed between Norway and Brazil to build a Trans-Atlantic green corridor.
