Pacific Gas tankers to run on ethanol

Shanghai-based shipping company Pacific Gas will run four very large ethane carrier (VLEC) newbuilds on ethanol as a fuel and has contracted Wärtsilä to provide fuel supply systems for them.

The new vessels are being built at Jiangnan Shipyard in China. Wärtsilä will deliver the systems by the first half of 2024, and the first of the vessels is anticipated to start commercial operations in 2025.

Wärtsilä will also provide cargo handling systems as part of the deal.
