Panama bunker sales fall in June

Sales of LSMGO and HSFO have decreased on a month-on-month basis.


Changes in Panama bunker fuel sales from May to June:

  • Total sales down 10,000 mt to 385,000 mt
  • VLSFO sales up 1,000 mt to 248,000 mt
  • LSMGO sales down 5,000 mt to 36,000 mt
  • HSFO sales down 4,000 mt to 95,000 mt
  • 0.5% MGO sales down 2,000 mt to 6,000 mt

Panama's bunker sales have declined further in June from May, according to preliminary data from the Panama Maritime Authority.

LSMGO sales fell by about 11% month-on-month. Sales of MGO dropped by around 24%, while HSFO sales decreased by approximately 4%.

In contrast, VLSFO sales edged up slightly by less than 1% from May levels.

Total bunker sales averaged about 12,800 mt/day in June, compared to around 12,700 mt/day in May.

Panama's ports saw 545 ships call for bunkers in June, down from 562 ships in May, while the number of barges operating remained consistent at 30.

The average stem size increased slightly to around 707 mt in June, from 702 mt the previous month.

VLSFO retained its position as Panama's most widely sold bunker fuel in June, accounting for approximately 65% of total bunker sales.

HSFO accounted for around 24% of total sales, while total MGO volumes represented about 11% of overall bunker sales.

Bunker availability is stable in Panama's Balboa and Cristobal ports.

Recommended lead times are 3-5 days for VLSFO and LSMGO, and HSFO requires around 7 days, a source said.
