The engine is designed to achieve more than 70% thermal efficiency, with the goal of reducing fuel consumption and emissions compared with conventional engines, according to Carnot Engines.
With Petredec's expertise in handling and shipping LPG and Carnot's engine technology, the partnership aims to "accelerate the development of this technology to deliver decarbonised power across a range of applications."
Petredec will invest in research and development of an LPG-capable version of Carnot's engine and will become a shareholder in the company.
Carnot Engines also states that its engine is capable of operating on a wide range of fuels—including LPG, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, biofuels, biogas, LNG and diesel—and can switch between fuels as required.
