Rondal's wind propulsion system gets LR nod

UK-based class society Lloyd’s Register (LR) has approved Rondal’s wing sails.

Rondal has developed the wing sails with UK-based maritime solutions provider Artemis Technologies.

Wind-assisted propulsion systems (WAPS), like wing sails, have been gaining popularity among shipowners as they look for technologies that can boost vessel performance, reduce fuel consumption and enhance sustainability.

The propulsion system is “suitable for both sailing catamarans and wind-assisted monohulls,” the sailing systems manufacturer said.
