October 6, 2023

Russia will keep the ban on gasoline and diesel exports imposed for “as long as it is necessary,” state-owned media agency TASS quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Russia introduced a temporary ban on its gasoline and diesel exports earlier on 21 September to “stabilize the domestic market,” TASS reported.

No deadline on lifting the band has been set yet, TASS added.

“The government has repeatedly noted that there is no deadline here,” TASS quoted the spokesperson saying. “The ban will persist as long as it is necessary,” he was further quoted while speaking to reporters.

The duration of this ban will depend on “market saturation,” Russia’s first deputy energy minister Pavel Sorokin said earlier, according to TASS.

“As soon as this necessity disappears other measures will be considered," Peskov said when asked about how soon the ban could be lifted.
